Police: Nursing assistant assaulted at Mon Valley Hospital
MONONGAHELA – A patient in a coronary care unit is accused of assaulting a nursing assistant last month at Mon Valley Hospital.
Carroll Township police filed charges in the case Friday against William M. Barna, 40, of Donora, accusing him of kicking the hospital employee in the right shoulder, causing him to fall backward against a wall about 3 p.m. Nov. 24, court records indicate.
The nursing assistant had been assigned to sit with Barna because Barna was agitated at the staff.
Police said the victim’s knees gave out “from the force of the kick,” to the point where he nearly fell to the floor. He also needed to be treated at his workplace for the injuries he suffered in the assault, police stated in the affidavit.
Barna, of 948 Thompson Ave., needed to be restrained with handcuffs around his wrists and ankles, police said.
He is charged with aggravated assault and simple assault.
District Judge Mark Wilson signed a warrant Monday for Barna’s arrest.
