Pennsylvania permits the use of medical marijuana for certain health conditions. The state’s medical marijuana program requires medical marijuana users to obtain a medical marijuana card.
Dr. Bryan Doner, a physician with Compassionate Certification Centers in Washington, outlines the steps medical marijuana patients must take before they walk into a dispensary to purchase the medication.
1. Have one of the 21 qualifying conditions. (To see what those are, visit www.medicalmarijuana.pa.gov)
2. Register as a patient on the Pennyslvania Patient Medical Marijuana Registry. (Visit https://padohmmp.custhelp.com/app/login)
3. Visit a physician who is on the Pennsylvania medical marijuana registry in order to get their medical marijuana certification card. (Visit www.health.pa.gov/topics/Documents/Programs/Medical%20Marijuana/DOH%20Approved%20Practitioners.pdf)
4. Once certified, pay the $50 state processing fee (the fee can be reduced or waived in certain cases per the state guidelines).
5. The patient will receive a medical marijuana certification card in the mail. The card will enable the patient to go to a state licensed dispensary and obtain medication.
Companies such as CCC and Releaf Specialists will help patients navigate the state registration process.
