Clark Mitchell Jr., a Washington attorney, has announced his candidacy for the magisterial district judge’s seat being vacated by Judge Jay Weller.

Mitchell, 32, was the Democratic nominee this year in a special election and general election for state representative in the 48th Legislative District, but lost both contests to Republican Tim O’Neal.

Mitchell is seeking both the Democratic and Republican nominations for the district judge’s seat. The district, numbered 27-3-05, encompasses East Washington, Strabane, North Strabane and South Strabane townships, part of Eighty Four, Pancake, Laboratory and Manifold.

Mitchell graduated from Trinity High School, Duquesne University and Western Michigan University’s Cooley Law School. He works in Washington for the law offices of Clark A. Mitchell.

Weller recently announced his retirement, and his resignation will go into effect Jan. 4. The post will remain open for 10 months, with candidates competing in the May 21 primary election.
