GOP candidate Sherman to make second bid for Washington County Commission
A Republican candidate who made an unsuccessful bid to become a Washington County commissioner in 2015 has announced he will be making a second try next year.
Nicholas Sherman, the executive vice president for the Finleyville-based Domestic Outreach Center, threw his hat in the ring Dec. 6 in a gathering at President’s Pub in Washington. Sherman came in third in the Republican primary in 2015, behind incumbent Diana Irey Vaughan and Peters Township resident Mike McCormick. McCormick ended up losing the general election by 35 votes to Democratic incumbent Harlan Shober.
If elected, Sherman said he will focus on economic development and low taxes.
Along with his work with the Domestic Outreach Center, Sherman also worked as a field director for U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy in 2004 and 2005, and was a legislative assistant in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. The North Strabane resident grew up in Union Township and received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Clarion University.
Sherman is the second Republican to announce his candidacy for the Washington County Board of Commissioners. Jason White, a Marianna resident, announced his candidacy in May.
