State police filed charges against a 21-year-old man who allegedly tried to sell fake jewelry to a Meadows Casino patron.

Adonis Matei, for whom court records list no address, was arrested and charged with theft by deception on Monday after he allegedly approached someone at the North Strabane Township casino, claiming it was $18 carats and giving $80 as a price.

A trooper with the gaming enforcement bureau of the agency said in charging papers that Matei allegedly had a counterfeit Rolex watch, three men’s rings, a bracelet and two necklaces with him when he was arrested. The rings, bracelet and necklaces were all labeled “18K” but were allegedly counterfeit gold.

Matei allegedly told police, unprompted, the jewelry is fake.

Police said Matei faces a pending grand theft auto case in Las Vegas. He’s being held in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond set by District Judge Larry Hopkins.
