A former employee of a Charleroi business pleaded guilty in federal court in Allegheny County on Tuesday to a charge of interstate transportation of fraud proceeds.

James E. Miller III, 47, of Wellsburg, W.Va., pleaded guilty to one count before U.S. District Judge Nora Barry Fischer. From November 2016 through April 2017, Miller fraudulently induced his employer in Charleroi to issue three checks totaling $59,129.10, payable to a fictitious business that Miller had created.

\Miller transported two of the checks totaling $32,671.50 from Charleroi to Wellsburg, and deposited those checks into a bank account that he controlled.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 3, 2019. Miller faces up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, or both.

Assistant United States Attorney Adam N. Hallowell is prosecuting the case. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service – Criminal Investigation conducted the investigation that led to James E. Miller’s prosecution.
