Washington gets new trash, recycling service
In 2019, Washington residents will be ringing out the old and ringing in the new when it comes to trash pickup and recycling.
The city has contracted with County Hauling Corp., based in Belle Vernon, to handle both solid waste and recycling, and the days of the week when both trash and recycling will be picked up will be changing in the new year, according to Peter McKeating, the vice president of corporate development for Noble Environmental Inc., which owns County Hauling.
Recycling will be picked up once a month, rather than twice a month, with the first new pickup days set for Jan. 22-23. Notifications have been sent to residents about the new days of the week their trash will be picked up, McKeating said. Trash pickup will continue to be weekly.
Previously, Waste Management had handled solid waste pickup for the city, with Republic Services picking up recycling.
The bills per household, which stand at $243 per year, will not change, McKeating said.
