A one-month-old child abducted in O’Hara Township in Allegheny County Friday morning was recovered in Washington County.

Pennsylvania State Police troopers stopped a silver SUV being driven by 29-year-old Ashton Curtis at 11:55 a.m. on Interstate 70, and recovered the child and took Curtis into custody without incident. Police apprehended Curtis about 90 minutes after O’Hara Township Police responded to a child abduction report at 8 Mary Street.

Allegheny County spokeswoman Amie Downs said charges had not been filed against Curtis as of 5 p.m. Friday. Neither she nor Pennsylvania State Police would comment on where Curtis’s vehicle was pulled over on Interstate 70, and would not elaborate on whether he was in custody in Washington County or Allegheny County.

Downs also would not say why Curtis allegedly abducted the child, or if he was the child’s father.

The Allegheny County Police Department is investigating the incident.
