California man arraigned on drug charges
A California man who appeared at Washington County Courthouse Wednesday on other charges was arraigned on new drug charges filed against him in connection with an August raid at his apartment.
David Wayne Brown III, 23, of 633 American St., had been scheduled to enter a plea before Judge Gary Gilman on drug charges. Instead, Gilman arraigned him on four counts each of possession and possession with intent to deliver crack, cocaine and marijuana and three counts of possession of paraphernalia filed against him earlier this month by a Washington County Drug Task Force detective.
Detectives, California police and Washington County sheriff’s deputies served the search warrant Aug. 11. During the search, detectives said they found crack, cocaine, Xanax and marijuana on a television stand next to where Brown was found in bed.
The detectives said they also found $861, a loaded semi-automatic .380-caliber handgun, a digital scale, a spoon with white residue on it and small plastic bags detectives said indicated Brown was selling drugs out of the apartment.
Brown was released from Washington County jail Thursday after posting the $20,000 bond set by Gilman. He is scheduled for a Feb. 12 preliminary hearing before District Judge Joshua Kanalis. He will be placed on the trial list on the original drug charges he faced before Gilman.
