California police charge Cokeburg man in fatal crash
A Cokeburg man was charged Friday by California police with homicide by vehicle and aggravated assault by vehicle in connection with a crash last March that killed a 26-year-old Brownsville woman.
Matthew Alexander Mance, 28, of 1 Grant St., also is charged with reckless endangerment, careless driving, reckless driving and failure to stop at a stop sign. The charges were filed at the office of District Judge Joshua Kanalis.
Angie Givens was killed in the March 25 two-vehicle crash at Malden Road and East Malden Drive. She was flown to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, where she was pronounced dead about four hours after the crash.
Injured in the crash were three passengers in Givens’ vehicle, including her 1-year-old daughter. Those passengers had to be flown to Pittsburgh hospitals for treatment. Mance also was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment. A passenger in his vehicle suffered minor injuries.
Police said Mance was driving on East Malden when he failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection, colliding with the vehicle driven by Givens. The force of the impact pushed Givens’ vehicle across the intersection and flipped it on its side.
Police said a witness told them the vehicle driven by Mance “blew” through the stop sign.
Mance will be arraigned later on the charges and will be scheduled for a preliminary hearing before Kanalis.
