5 Kidz Kandy in Waynesburg will be selling flowers from the Ivy Garden on Valentine’s Day.
The shop, at 78 E. High St. in Waynesburg, will have chocolate-covered strawberries, candy, flowers, wine, specialty desserts and gifts all day Valentine’s Day.
Owner Kristy Vliet said her store will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. to accommodate customers. She will have her chocolate fountain out and flowing, as a thank you and sweet treat to anyone who comes in.
Thistlethwaite Vineyards will be on site selling their wine and offering samples from noon to 8 p.m. Flowers from the Ivy Green also will be available.

A box of chocolate can be a delicious surprise, but it always seems that there’s one piece in the box everyone avoids. That’s not the case with a box from 5 Kidz Kandy. Heart-shaped chocolate boxes can be customized with only the flavors customers want.
“They can come in and customize their own Valentine,” Vliet said. “We try really hard to get everybody in and happy.”
Vliet begins taking orders for chocolate-covered strawberries as early as two weeks in advance but will have a limited amount available today.
“It’s always better to call ahead and order them,” Vliet said of the treats, sold by the half-dozen, dozen, or in a tower.
Vliet makes sure all of the chocolates and packaging are ready ahead of one of her busiest days. Dry ingredients for the desserts also are measured out ahead of time. Vliet said she got up at 3 a.m. Tuesday and plans to do the same today to prepare her treats on just a few hours sleep.
“But that’s OK, as long as nobody asks me anything that requires an intelligent answer Thursday,” she said with a smile.
Mardi Gras just the day before made preparation more hectic, Vliet said. Spicy smells from the jambalaya and Cajun sausage mixed with the chocolates as people came in and placed their orders for strawberries. Vliet said she received most of her orders for chocolate-covered strawberries Tuesday.

Gift boxes of chocolates and more will be available at 5 Kidz Kandy in Waynesburg on Valentine’s Day.
“If they can’t have chocolate, we have all kinds of other stuff,” she said.
If food isn’t your thing, 5 Kidz Kandy has more than just edible gifts. With the recent closing of Artbeat nearby, Vliet has started stocking the Winegars’ pottery, including wine stoppers, vases, coffee mugs and wine glasses.
Vliet also offers other trinkets, such as jewelry and stuffed animals.
