In response to one of the worst influenza seasons in recent years, the Pennsylvania Department of Health is offering free influenza vaccine clinics.

All times are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The dates and locations are: Tuesday at the State Health Center, 167 N. Main St., Suite 100, Washington; Thursday at Washington County Fairgrounds, 2151 N. Main St., Washington; and Feb. 26 at the State Health Center, 108 Greene Plaza, Suite 2, Waynesburg.

Residents must call 1-877-PA-HEALTH to schedule an appointment, or, if going to the state health center, call the Washington office at 724-223-4540 or the Waynesburg office at 724-627-3168.

“The most prevalent strain of flu this season, H3N2, has been particularly difficult for seniors and young children,” said Acting Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine. “We’re offering free flu shots because confirmed cases of the virus continue to be a significant health threat throughout Pennsylvania.”

Nearly 62,000 flu cases were reported from October 1, 2017, to Feb. 10, with 107 deaths.

Severe symptoms of the flu are high fever, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, confusion, sudden dizziness, severe vomiting or starting to feel better and then suddenly getting much worse. Seek medical assistance for treatment of these symptoms.
