A driver struck a pedestrian who was trying to cross a busy section of Route 19 Monday after nightfall in McMurray.

Sgt. Matt Collins of Peters police said authorities are still piecing together details on the incident, including gaining more information about the pedestrian. The person’s condition wasn’t known as of press time.

“We’re still confirming his identity,” Collins said of the unidentified pedestrian who “was still being worked on and treated at the hospital,” he added.

Collins said the pedestrian was transported from the scene by ambulance, but wasn’t sure to which hospital.

The accident was reported just before 8 p.m. It occurred in front of the Washington Circle commercial building in McMurray. First responders blocked the southbound lanes of the highway while police took measurements around the vehicle involved, which was later towed.

“It’s still under investigation,” he said. “We’ll have more information in the morning.”

Collins said the driver “remained on scene, and he was cooperative.”
