Washington police investigate report of shots fired
Washington police are working to determine the circumstances after numerous shots reportedly were fired late Tuesday in the area of the 1300 block of Allison Avenue.
There were multiple calls around 11:45 p.m. about 10 to 12 shots being fired in the area. City police said multiple neighbors in the area confirmed seeing Alyssa Adkins, 28, of 65 W. Hallam Ave., Washington, and Vashaun Wright, 28, of Washington, in the area.
Police said it was not immediately clear what happened. They said they received reports Adkins shot at Wright, but there were no witnesses to the actual shooting. Wright, who was found walking in the area, was not cooperative when asked what happened, police said.
Adkins was found walking south in the 1400 block of Jefferson Avenue. Witnesses identified her as the woman involved in the incident. Adkins denied having a gun or shooting at anyone. Police said she had a large amount of money on her when she was found.
On a porch in the 1300 block of Allison, police found nine spent shell casings. Six of the casings appeared to be .380-caliber, while the other three were .45-caliber, police said. The findings indicated there could have been multiple shooters, which contradicted witness reports, police said.
In the 10 block of McAdam Avenue, police found a silver Nissan Versa with a shattered rear window. The rear, upper door frame of the vehicle appeared to have been struck by a bullet.
A Dodge pickup truck was found in the 1300 block of Allison with a bullet hole in the side of the bed. The bullet exited through a bed liner, police said.
Officer Matthew Karlowsky and his K-9, Tony, searched the area where Adkins was found. No gun was located, but $201 was found between a fence line and Allison. Police also plan to check surveillance cameras in the area.
Adkins was placed in Washington County jail on a bench warrant. She also faces assault charges filed against her last week, stemming from separate incidents.
City police charged her last week with aggravated assault, simple assault and reckless driving for allegedly deliberately hitting a 22-year-old woman with her vehicle in the 100 block of East Katherine Avenue on Feb. 3. She then allegedly got out of her vehicle and punched the victim multiple times.
North Franklin police charged her with simple assault and harassment for allegedly assaulting a 35-year-old woman Feb. 12 in the 100 block of Hamilton Street.
