Canonsburg Hospital has started a program for cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation.
The hospital, part of the Allegheny Health Network, had an open house Tuesday to enlighten the public about the program. It is designed to assist people who are recovering from heart-related matters or cardiovascular procedures, and those dealing with heart and lung diseases.
This program, according to a news release, follows a collaborative, team-based approach. “The sessions are team-based, but we don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach for cardiovascular rehab,” said Travis Wilson, medical director of the hospital’s cardiovascular rehab program. “We tailor the program to make sure it is appropriate for each person and the individual’s progress is closely monitored at every step along the way.”
Patients participating in the program will be directed toward a new lifestyle. They will be advised about dietary changes, stress management and weight loss, which could be vital in preventing a recurring heart problem.
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death nationwide, and chronic lower respiratory disease is No. 3.
