Chartiers-Houston officials investigating apparent threat
Chartiers-Houston School District posted a statement on its website Tuesday that it was investigating an apparent threat, though it did not elaborate on the nature of it.
“There was information provided to us concerning district and school safety,” the statement said. It also said the information came from “multiple sources.”
While the district emphasized it was unaware of a “direct threat,” the township police department was contacted, and reports from “multiple sources” were investigated.
The statement, signed by “Chartiers-Houston Administrative Team,” also stated there may be some changes to building procedures based on walk-throughs of district buildings. There are two school buildings in the district – Allison Park Elementary School and Chartiers-Houston Junior/Senior High School.
The statement also cited a “continued police presence” it described as “precautionary” and would “facilitate our students feeling safe and secure in the school environment.”
James M. Hovrath, chief of Chartiers Township Police Department, declined to comment. Two calls made to the office of John George, the district’s superintendent, were not returned.
The number of threats to schools have spiked nationally in the wake of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., Feb. 14, that left 17 dead. In Southwestern Pennsylvania, threats have been reported in districts in South Park, Blairsville and Monroeville.
