CUMBERLAND
Attempted assault, strangulation charges: Benjamin A. Kiger, 43, of 3400 E. Franklin St., Waynesburg, was charged Monday with attempted simple assault, harassment and strangulation. Cumberland Township police said Kiger choked Loretta Rutan and pushed her into a bookshelf at her home in Carmichaels Feb. 17. Simple assault and harassment charges against a man by the same name, Benjamin W. Kiger, 53, of Point Marion, were withdrawn Monday.
FRANKLIN
Contraband: Manuel Joseph Bendana, 24, no address, was charged with contraband, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after state police said correctional officers found him with prescription drugs, Suboxone and paraphernalia Feb. 20 while he was being held at Greene County jail in Franklin Township.
JEFFERSON
Paraphernalia, weapon charges: Amy Rena Jenkins, 30, of 1005 Fifth St., Marianna, was charged Tuesday with two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of an offensive weapon, driving with a suspended license, failure to surrender her license and driving without a valid inspection. State police stopped Jenkins Jan. 24 in the 1200 block of E. Roy Furman Highway near Gwynn Road in Jefferson Township. Police said they saw an orange syringe cap on the driver’s seat, and troopers searched the vehicle and said they found an empty uncapped needle in the center console, brass knuckles in Jenkins’ purse and a glass smoking pipe in a grocery bag.
