Gasoline prices throughout Western Pennsylvania held steady for the past week, AAA East Central reported Tuesday. The average price of a gallon of self-service unleaded was $285.0 per gallon.
That is 4 cents higher than the statewide average of $2.81, and well above the figure for most states. A gallon of petrol, according to AAA, is cheapest in Virginia ($2.34).
Those figures for Pennsylvania and Western Pennsylvania have skyrocketed since the same week last year, rising 29 cents across the commonwealth and 32.6 cents in this region. Gas averaged $2.53.2 in the Pittsburgh region at the end of February 2017.
On a list of prices in 22 cities and towns in Western Pennsylvania, AAA reported Washington had the fifth-lowest average, $277.3. Sharon ($274.6) and New Castle ($276.1), in the northwestern corner, had the least expensive gasoline. Uniontown and Erie were tied for third at $2.76.6. Jeannette had the highest average figure, $2.91.8.
