Solobay out as fire commissioner
Former state legislator Tim Solobay of Canonsburg abruptly resigned as Pennsylvania fire commissioner, according to a Harrisburg-based online media outlet.
PennLive reported Sunday that Solobay, a Democrat who served previously in the state Senate and state House, apparently resigned from his current post over the weekend. The report said the resignation is effective immediately.
The news outlet said it had been trying to contact Solobay about a sexual harassment allegation while he was a senator. ABC 27, a television station in Harrisburg, reported that Wolf relieved him of his duties. The Observer-Reporter attempted to reach him by cellphone Sunday evening but the call was not immediately returned.
After losing a bid for re-election, Solobay was appointed fire commissioner by Gov.-elect Tom Wolf in January 2015. PennLive reported Sunday that Wolf’s press secretary, J.J. Abbott, released a statement confirming the resignation. Abbott said, “I cannot comment further on specific details of a personnel matter.”
