Burst pipe closes Washington High
Washington High School students will get an extra day off Wednesday due to a burst pipe over the weekend that left water damage in the building.
Superintendent James Konrad said a pipe burst on the first floor of the school sometime in the past few days, and trickled down into lower levels of the building.
“My initial thoughts were that it was the cold weather and the freezing temperatures we’ve had,” he said.
Konrad said the water damaged about six rooms in the school, including the media center and the cafeteria. He said officials do not yet know how much damage was done or what repairs will cost.
“We have someone coming out to assess the damage,” he said. “We need to make sure the ceiling tiles aren’t waterlogged and that they won’t fall or hurt anyone.”
Konrad said he expects school to resume Thursday. Students had off Tuesday for an in-service day for staff, he said.
“We just want to make sure everything is secure and the kids are safe,” he said.
