A Morgan Township family is homeless after crews responded to a fire that destroyed a mobile home at Jefferson Estates early Tuesday morning.

Jefferson fire Chief Joe Petek said they were called at 4 a.m. to the fire at 71 Jefferson Estates in Morgan Township.

“We contained it to the backside of the mobile home,” he said of the blaze, but with smoke and water damage he said the home was a total loss.

Four people were taken to local hospitals for smoke inhalation, but no one was seriously injured, Petek said. No firefighters were hurt in the process. The fire was contained by 6:30 a.m.

One victims’ mother, Belinda Miller, said her son was taken to a nearby hospital for smoke inhalation, but he was released shortly after. She added many donations are now coming in to help her son, Jeremy Miller, Bobbie Haring and children, Hailey and Miley.

Though posts on social media stated the Jefferson fire station was accepting donations to help this family as well as keep extra items in the event another family is displaced, Petek said that effort was still up in the air and he did not have any information on it.

A neighbor, Gabbi Eddy, is also taking donations for the family and said people could contact her through Facebook.

American Red Cross of Western Pennsylvania also announced workers are providing food, clothing and temporary shelter for the family.

Petek did not immediately know the cause of the fire, but said the state police fire marshal is investigating.

Firefighters from Waynesburg-Franklin and Rices Landing were called to assist due to the cold weather, Petek said.
