A Burgettstown man was arrested early Sunday by McDonald police after he allegedly stabbed a 21-year-old man six times during a confrontation outside his Center Avenue home.

Jeffrey Ryan Painter Jr., 25, of 122 Center Ave., was taken into custody after police were called to his home about 12:35 a.m. for a report of a man who had been stabbed with a knife.

Police from Hanover and Smith townships were the first to arrive and detained Painter. The officers also seized a knife with a small blade from Painter, who reportedly had it holstered in a sheath. Police also saw what they described as a significant amount of blood outside the house on the sidewalk and on the road.

The alleged victim was found at his Dinsmore Avenue home. He was taken to St. Clair Hospital and later transferred to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh. He had five stab wounds in his shoulder and a sixth stab wound on the lower left side of his neck. Police also found blood inside the home.

Painter reportedly admitted to police that he brandished the knife at the victim before stabbing him during an altercation.

The 21-year-old, interviewed by police at the Pittsburgh hospital, said that he and his girlfriend went to Painter’s home in a vehicle, where the men reportedly got into an argument. Both are reportedly both involved with the woman identified as the girlfriend.

The alleged victim reportedly got out of the vehicle and began scuffling with Painter, throwing him to the ground. Painter then reportedly stood back up and stabbed the 21-year-old man. The alleged victim and girlfriend got back into the vehicle and fled to the home on Dinsmore, police said.

Painter was arraigned before District Judge Robert Redlinger on charges of aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, simple assault, possession of instruments of a crime, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, possession of marijuana and harassment.

He was placed in Washington County jail on $100,000 bond. Painter is scheduled for a Jan. 11 preliminary hearing before District Judge Gary Havelka.
