A fire Monday afternoon damaged an apartment and a garage in Hanover Township.

Firefighters were called about 4:20 p.m. to a home at 1071 Steubenville Pike in the village of Florence for a fire in an apartment over a garage. Fire Lt. Dominic Morra said most of the fire was contained to the attic. The residents, whose names were not available, lived next to the building that was mostly used for storage and called 911 after spotting smoke.

Morra said the fire was put out within about 10 minutes. He also said firefighters had to deal with ice and a freezing water supply in fighting the fire.

Assisting at the scene were firefighters from Slovan, Jefferson Township (Eldersville) and Hanover Township in Beaver County.
