A Washington man was arraigned Saturday on charges including aggravated assault and unlawful restraint stemming from an incident on North Franklin Street last July.

Shaquore Marquis Yarbrough, 24, of 1519 N. Main St., is also charged with simple assault and strangulation.

Police were called July 18 to the 300 block of North Franklin for a report of a woman who allegedly had been repeatedly assaulted throughout the day by Yarbrough.

The 29-year-old woman told police Yarbrough, who was her boyfriend, spent the night. She said when they awoke, he started looking through her cellphone. Yarbrough reportedly became enraged by what he found on her phone. He allegedly started choking her, taking her to the floor. She was able to get away and run to an upstairs bedroom.

Yarbrough reportedly followed her and starting hitting and kicking her. He then left and went to confront a neighbor but found no one home. Yarbrough then allegedly returned to the woman’s home, locked several doors and held her against her will for more than an hour.

She told police he continued to go through her phone. He also struck and kicked her several times.

When someone knocked on the front door, Yarbrough became distracted and she was able to run out of the back door and call 911. Yarbrough fled from the area. Police saw bruising on the woman’s neck, throat, arms, legs and back.

Yarbrough was arraigned before District Judge Robert Redlinger and placed in Washington County jail on a $20,000 percentage bond. He faces a Jan. 10 preliminary hearing before Redlinger.
