Kmart near Bridgeville closing in April
The Kmart store in Collier Township is on the list of 64 stores across the country the retail giant plans to close this spring as the company tries to “right size” its business model.
Sears Holdings announced Thursday the store at 1025 Washington Pike, a longtime anchor tenant in Chartiers Valley Shopping Center, will close its doors in early April.
The announcement coincides with the company’s decision to also close 39 Sears department stores, including the one at Ross Park Mall.
The company said eligible workers at the stores will receive a severance and an opportunity to work at other stores if there are open positions.
“Sears Holdings continues its strategic assessment of the productivity of our Kmart and Sears store base and will continue to right size our store footprint in number and size,” the company said in a statement. “In the process, as previously announced we will continue to close some unprofitable stores as we transform our business model so that our physical store footprint and our digital capabilities match the needs and preferences of our members.”
