A 21-year-old Washington man was killed early Sunday in a one-vehicle accident in Amwell Township.

Ralph David Moore was driving northbound on Chestnut Ridge Road at about 2:50 a.m. when his vehicle went out of control, struck a tree and caught fire, according to a news release from Washington County Coroner Tim Warco.

After attempting to negotiate a right-hand curve, Moore lost control of the Jeep Wrangler he was driving and began to spin clockwise, a state police news release said.

The vehicle struck a tree on the west side of the road, then spun counterclockwise and continued down a hill for about 150 feet before striking another tree, spinning once again and coming to a stop, police said.

The scene of the accident was about 1/4 mile south of Route 40.

Moore was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said.

Firefighters from South Strabane, Amwell and Lone Pine fire departments assisted at the scene of the accident along with personnel from Ambulance and Chair Service.
