A fire early Friday destroyed a house in the village of Lawrence, Cecil Township.

The fire was reported about 2:30 a.m. at the Safko residence, 19 Federal St. The home and contents are a total loss, according to William Cass, fire chief of Cecil No. 1 Volunteer Fire co. in Lawrence. The family and their pets were able to safely escape.

Cass said the likely cause of the fire was electrical in nature and started in the basement before traveling upstairs. 

Assisting at the scene were firefighters from Cecil No. 3 and the rapid intervention teams from Peters and North Strabane Township fire departments.
