Chemical fire breaks out at Dynamet

Chartiers Township residents were told to stay indoors as firefighters battled a chemical fire that broke out at Dynamet Inc. in Chartiers Township Thursday night.

According to Washington County 911, the fire started at about 7:30 p.m.

Employees were evacuated from the plant at 195 Museum Rd., according to Chartiers Township police.

Residents who live near the facility were asked to stay indoors.

Air-quality levels were being monitored as crews from several fire departments worked to extinguish the blaze.

The township announced on its Facebook page “there is a fire in progress at Dynamet. First responders are on the scene. Emergency Management has advised that residents should shelter in place where you are.”

The advisory said there was no reason to evacuate.

Just before 11 p.m., the township made another post, which said the fire was “under control and the smoke had dissipated.”

Dynamet Inc. produces titanium alloy products.

No injuries were reported in the fire as of presstime.
