Former Mississippi man arraigned on assault, threats charges
A former Mississippi man was arraigned Wednesday in connection with an alleged incident more than a year ago in California.
Vincent Elcane Knight Jr., 23, formerly of Pascagoula, was taken into custody Saturday by German Township police and placed in Fayette County jail. He was brought to Washington County Wednesday for arraignment before District Judge Joshua Kanalis on charges of aggravated assault, terroristic threats, possessing instruments of a crime, simple assault and reckless endangerment.
Police were called Nov. 6, 2016, to 1263 Zulu St., for a report of a man threatening people with a gun. While responding, police learned shots been fired.
When officers arrived, the alleged shooter was gone. Knight, also known as “Duck,” was identified as the gunman. Police also learned he targeted a man and woman.
Police found a 9mm shell casing on Zulu near the Cross Street apartments. A woman told police Knight threatened to kill her if she called police while she during an argument between herself, son and Knight.
The woman said she later went to her son’s apartment when she was confronted by Knight, who was armed with a handgun. He allegedly held the gun by her head and threatened to kill her son. He reportedly fired several shots into the air before fleeing on foot.
Kanalis denied Knight bond since the 23-year-old could not provide a permanent address. He is scheduled for a Jan. 29 preliminary hearing before Kanalis.
