A man arrested more than two years ago for the aggravated assault of an infant is to report to the Washington County jail Friday to begin serving a four- to eight-year sentence.
Ryan Lawrence Jankowski, 24, will also have to remain on probation for three additional years on a charge of endangering the welfare of a child according to the sentence imposed Tuesday by Judge Gary Gilman.
Court documents gave several addresses for Jankowski, including Monessen, Westmoreland County; Belle Vernon, Fayette County; and White Oak, Allegheny County.
Monongahela police investigated why the unresponsive baby was taken to Monongahela Valley Hospital in June 2015, reportedly after a fall at 516 Hudson Ave., Monongahela.
The child had bruises on his head of various colors, and those evaluating his condition said the injuries were not consistent with accidental trauma but resembled shaken-baby syndrome or other abuse.
Police determined Jankowski was the sole caregiver at the time the baby was injured.
Gilman gave Jankowski credit for 105 days served before he was released on bond, but said he must return to the Washington County jail to await transport to a state prison.
Court documents did not indicate the child’s prognosis or his relationship, if any, with Jankowski.
