Escape: John R. Stage, 47, of 146 Franklin St., Waynesburg, an inmate at the Greene County jail on work release, was charged with escape after he failed to report back to the jail by 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, the required time, state police said Investigators said they learned from Stage’s employer he had not been to work since Jan. 18. Stage is serving a 1 to 5 year sentence for criminal trespass and other charges. His minimum release date was Aug. 8, police said. Stage, who turned himself into authorities, was arraigned Wednesday before District Judge Dave Balint and returned to jail.

Simple assault: Shane Alex Black, 23, of Monongahela Township, was charged with simple assault and harassment after he allegedly punched a woman in the face three times, causing bruises, following an argument at 1:05 p.m. Dec. 21 at 1484 S. Eighty Eight Road in the township, state police said.
