A Fayette County man was sentenced to 5 to 10 years in state prison Thursday in connection with a Robinson Township man’s fatal overdose two years ago.

Washington County Judge Valarie Costanzo handed down that sentence for Myron M. Moore Jr., 32, of North Union Township. Moore pleaded guilty to charges of drug delivery resulting in death, criminal use of a communication facility and other drug-related charges in a deal with county prosecutors.

McDonald police said they were called to a Sunset Drive home in Robinson shortly after midnight Feb. 18, 2015, to find 35-year-old Justin Halyak’s girlfriend performing CPR on him. A paramedic unsuccessfully administered multiple doses of the opioid overdose antidote Narcan. An autopsy later showed Halyak died of combined toxicity from heroin and cocaine.

Investigators concluded Moore sold Halyak and his girlfriend highly potent “raw” heroin outside of New Salem Mini Mart in Menallen Township, Fayette County, the afternoon before he overdosed, according to court papers.

Court papers said Moore also sold cocaine to Halyak and his girlfriend two days earlier.

Attorney Blaine Jones, whose firm is listed in court papers as representing Moore, didn’t immediately return a request for comment.

Moore reportedly told investigators in a written statement he never intended “to hurt anybody on purpose. I am 100 percent sorry if what I did hurt anybody in any way.” His statement went on to say if he “could take it back and take my life for that man’s then I would.”

Court records show Moore is free on $500,000 bond. Costanzo ordered him to report to Washington County jail by 12 p.m. Feb. 8.
