California police arrest Washington man on theft, resisting charges
A Washington man was arrested Monday by California police on charges including resisting arrest and theft after he allegedly entered a California Terrace home without permission and stole snacks.
Deshawn Chaz Barfield, 24, of 477 W. Chestnut St., was taken into custody after he struggled with three borough police officers.
Police were called to a home in the 1200 block of Zulu Street after a man reportedly ran inside a house and a woman who had been in the house ran out. Police could see broken glass and a screen on the ground. An officer could see a man in the apartment.
When Barfield came to the door, police could see blood on his hand. Police learned that it was the apartment of his former girlfriend. Barfield struggled with officers as they tried to take him into custody and had to use a Taser to subdue him.
Police said he allegedly stole snacks, crackers, candy and drinks from the apartment.
Barfield was arraigned before District Judge Joshua Kanalis on three counts each of resisting arrest and theft and one count each of disorderly conduct and criminal trespass. He was placed in Washington County Jail on $50,000 bond. Barfield is scheduled for a Feb. 12 preliminary hearing before Kanalis.
