Some fans to be given ‘concert cash’ after Buffett bottleneck
Jimmy Buffett fans who were left outside KeyBank Pavilion during the singer’s Saturday concert due to bottlenecks at security checkpoints are being offered “concert cash” in exchange for missing part or most of the show.
Live Nation, the operator of KeyBank Pavilion, located outside Burgettstown, released a statement Tuesday saying “while the majority of fans enjoyed a great two-hour performance at KeyBank Pavilion, Live Nation is working closely with Ticketmaster Fan Support to assist those who experienced delays entering the venue.”
It went on to say that Live Nation is offering “concert cash” to ticket buyers who did not pass through the gates by 8:25 p.m., roughly the time Buffett’s set started. The “cash” can be used for another show at KeyBank Pavilion or any other venue in the United States owned by Live Nation.
The statement said, “Buyers will be compensated based on the price of their original ticket, which was $50 for the lawn and $150 for reserved purchases.”
Many fans reported waiting for an hour or more in long lines at the Buffett concert, with some missing most of it. Apparently the delays were caused by newly installed, airport-style metal detectors. On Sunday, Live Nation released a statement apologizing for the “inconvenience and frustration this may have caused.” The company also vowed to “prevent situations like this from happening again in the future.”
Concert venues both in the United States and around the world have been taking steps to beef up security in recent months following a mass shooting at a Las Vegas country music festival last October that left 58 people dead and almost 500 injured, along with earlier terrorist attacks at concerts in Paris and Manchester, England.
