A Hanover Township man wanted on warrants for allegedly assaulting his former girlfriend and stealing an all-terrain vehicle was taken into custody after he was found Monday in a car that had been reported stolen in Pittsburgh.

Walter Jones Jr., 38, was found by Smith Township police inside the car that was on property on Vance Drive.

He tried to run from police, but was later apprehended.

Smith police charged him with receiving stolen property and flight to avoid apprehension.

Jones also was wanted on a warrant obtained by Smith on charges of theft and receiving stolen property for allegedly stealing an all-terrain vehicle from a home on Langeloth Road July 7.

Hanover police obtained a warrant charging him with simple assault and reckless endangerment for allegedly choking his 38-year-old former girlfriend as she drove in her driveway June 30.

Jones was arraigned before District Judge Ethan Ward and placed in Washington County jail on $110,000 bond. He faces a July 26 preliminary hearing before District Judge Gary Havelka.
