Washington City Council hires police officer
Washington City Council Thursday hired a full-time police officer.
At a special meeting, council members voted to hire Officer Daniel Eberman at an annual salary of $45,000. He will begin work Aug. 6.
Eberman comes to Washington from Clairton Police Department, where he served full-time for 10 years. He is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
Eberman will replace Officer Joseph Moore, who resigned earlier this month.
“It’s good to have a full complement of police officers on board,” said Mayor Scott Putnam. “We’re looking forward to Aug. 6 to have him on board.”
In May, Moore handcuffed a Washington County jail captain after she allegedly declined to accept a prisoner until he was cleared by a doctor due to a pre-existing medical condition.
Moore was placed on administrative duty June 15, while the police department completed an internal review of the incident.
