Washington man arrested in brass knuckle attack
A Washington man was arrested Saturday night by Washington police after he allegedly barged into a West Walnut Street home and assaulted a 19-year-old man with a pair of brass knuckles.
Karon Washington, 36, of 215 Donnan Ave., is charged with burglary, aggravated assault, criminal mischief and having a prohibited offensive weapon.
Police were called about 9:45 p.m. to a home in the 100 block of West Walnut. The 19-year-old told police he was in his bedroom when Washington reportedly barged into the house.
Washington reportedly walked past two other residents who were in the living room and went directly to the 19-year-old’s bedroom. When the alleged victim stood up, Washington reportedly hit the 19-year-old on the side of the head with the brass knuckles. The victim had bruising and swelling on his face.
Washington then allegedly threatened the other man, telling him he was going to come back and kill him. Washington then walked back into the living room, smashing an X-Box video game and 33-inch television. He then left the house and the victim called 911.
About an hour later, Washington returned to the house. He allegedly forced open the front door and approached the 19-year-old who had reportedly grabbed a kitchen knife to defend himself. Washington reportedly removed his shirt and threatened to kill the 19-year-old. Both ended up on the back stairway of the home.
City police arrived and ordered Washington to get on the ground. He reportedly refused to comply with commands from the officers and had to be physically restrained. Washington was injured in the scuffle with police. A set of brass knuckles were found inside the pocket of his hooded shirt when he was searched after being taken into custody.
He was arraigned before District Judge Ethan Ward and placed in Washington County jail on $50,000 bond. Washington is scheduled for an Aug. 1 preliminary hearing before District Judge Robert Redlinger.
