New Jersey man arrested in North Strabane human trafficking case

A New Jersey man was arrested Tuesday afternoon in a human trafficking case involving unlawful sexual contact with a child that was investigated by police in North Strabane Township.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Pittsburgh office also participated in the investigation that led to the arrest of Kevin John Newell of Maywood. according to a news release from North Strabane police.

Newell was arrested following a search of his residence under a warrant sought in New Jersey by North Strabane police.

Newell, 55, was also arrested as a fugitive under multiple charges in Pennsylvania, according to a news release issued by the prosecutor’s office in Bergen County, N.J.

The investigation resulted in Newell facing charges of trafficking in individuals, trafficking in minors, unlawful sexual contact with a minor, knowingly or permitting the depiction on a computer of a child sex act and criminal use of a cellphone.

He was remanded to Bergen County jail without bond pending extradition to Pennsylvania, the news release indicated. Additional information regarding the details of the allegations against Newell was not immediately available Tuesday night.
