Georgianna Farkas said her prayers were answered Saturday in that no one was injured when bricks fell from the Brookside Avenue side of her building at 399 W. Chestnut St. in Washington.

Brookside, between West Chestnut and Fayette Street, was blocked off as a precaution.

Farkas said she hired some professionals to look at her building. She said they all said a prayer that they would be safe before starting to examine the building.

City firefighters said that workers had just set up scaffolding and had gone up to look at an area where the bricks had started to bubble. The workers then came back down and when they were on the ground, about 100 bricks fell off the northwest side of the building onto the sidewalk.

A 911 supervisor said that the initial call came in at about 2 p.m. as a building collapse.

City police were also on the scene. It is not known if an inspector will be out to check the integrity of the remaining bricks on the building.
