SPEERS – A Charleroi woman and her friend were charged in a scheme to steal $32,124 from her former employer to help support her heroin addiction, police allege in court records.

Charleroi Regional police last week filed charges of theft and receiving stolen property in the case against Amanda C. Miklos, 37, and David P. Gettings, 38, court records show.

Bruce Marshall, the office manager at Valley Tire Co., 1002 Arentzen Boulevard, Speers, filed the complaint against Miklos with police May 21. Marshall accused Miklos, of 505 First St., of creating a dozen fake invoices to steal the money between November 2016 and December, police noted in the affidavit.

Police claim Mikos admitted to using three checks to steal $1,300 from the company while she worked in accounts payable. She said the money was used to help support a relative who was having financial trouble, police said.

She allegedly confessed to issuing nine checks to Gettings, of 817 Bentleyville Road, Fallowfield Township, after she started to use heroin again and fell behind in her bills, the affidavit indicates.

Gettings told police Miklos paid him between $500 and $700 each time he cashed one of the checks, except for at Christmas, when she gave him $1,300.

Miklos no longer works for Valley Tire. She told police she stopped issuing the checks to Gettings because she felt guilty when her boss came into the office.

District Judge Larry Hopkins issued the charges last week in summons.
