Kristen Majocha will be the new dean of the College of Liberal Arts at California University of Pennsylvania.

Majocha, who will begin work July 2, is coming from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, where she was assistant to the vice president of academic affairs and an associate professor in the Communications Department.

She is a U.S. Navy veteran who got doctorate and master’s degrees at Duquesne University and a bachelor’s at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania.

Bruce Barnhart, provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs at Cal U., said in a prepared statement: “Dr. Majocha is widely recognized as a scholar within her discipline, and she brings a high level of energy and enthusiasm to the role of dean.”

Cal U.’s College of Liberal Arts oversees the departments of Art and Languages; Communication, Design and Culture; Criminal Justice; English; History, Politics, Society and Law; Music and Theatre; and Psychology.

Majocha will succeed Mohamed Yamba, who retired in March after nearly 30 years as a faculty member and dean at Cal U. Dr. Yugo Ikach, co-chair of the Music and Theatre Department, is the interim dean.
