A 3-month-old baby suffered a fractured skull when he was dropped during a street fight Saturday night in the 200 block of Lincoln Terrace.

Washington police said four women had been fighting in the street about 10 p.m. when one of them dropped the infant, whose head hit the pavement. The child was taken to the emergency room at Washington Hospital and from there flown to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh with a fractured skull, police said.

The child’s 16-year-old mother was one of the people fighting, according to police, along with the child’s 37-year-old grandmother. Both live in the 200 block of Lincoln Terrace. Another woman, 60, and her daughter, 34, who live down the street, also were part of the confrontation, in which all four allegedly had thrown punches, according to police.

The 16-year-old reportedly told police she was holding her baby when she was struck in the back of the head by the 60-year-old woman, causing her to fall and drop the baby. But the 60-year-old and a witness told police the grandmother had been the one holding the baby, and that she had dropped the child. They said the grandmother was trying to break up the fight, but also was throwing punches.

Police said they are trying to get surveillance video of the fight. Charges are pending.
