State Rep. Jason Ortitay drafted legislation that updates the Human Services Code as part of the 2018-19 budget.

Gov. Tom Wolf signed the bill as part of the budget package after it was passed by both the House and Senate.

Ortitay’s legislation replaced the words “day care” with “child care”; extended the requirement that providers submit documentation of their costs for services for children in placement; created a program for nonemergency medical transportation services for Medical Assistance recipients; requires the Department of Human Services to issue a quarterly report and provide information about the Living Independence For the Elderly program to those seeking long-term care; seeks to increase efficiency in hospital service and managed-care programs through Medicaid; and extended the hospital assessment, which generates additional state revenue and increases funds available for hospital Medicaid payments.
