A man was seriously injured Wednesday when his motorcycle traveled off of Route 40 and into a ravine in South Strabane Township.

Township police said emergency workers were making plans to fly the victim in a helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital.

The motorcycle was traveling west near Kopper Kettle Road when it traveled off of the right berm about 4:30 p.m. struck a guardrail and went airborne into the ravine, police said.

The identity of the injured man was not immediately known Wednesday night.

Rescuers used a stokes basket to carry him up a steep hill to an ambulance. South Strabane firefighters assisted.
