Second man charged in Canton assault
A second man has been charged by state police in connection with an incident last month inside an apartment at a Canton Township complex.
Joseph V. Alderson, 49, of 50 Belair Drive, Canton, was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge David Mark on charges of aggravated and simple assault and harassment.
Alderson is accused of swinging a stick at Lloyd Harper, hitting him in the arm, during a Feb. 19 confrontation inside Alderson’s apartment in Belvedere Acres. Harper, 53, of Barnickle Street, Meadow Lands, was charged that day by state police with aggravated and simple assault and harassment for allegedly hitting Alderson with the same stick.
Both men were taken to Washington Hospital for treatment. Police said Harper had a gash on his head and a broken arm. Alderson had a head injury.
It was the second time Harper was accused of assaulting Alderson. He is awaiting a preliminary hearing on charges of simple assault and harassment filed by Chartiers Township police in connection with a Dec. 19 incident at Harper’s Meadow Lands home.
Harper allegedly pushed Alderson into a television stand. Alderson was taken to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment of broken ribs and a fractured disc.
Both men are free on $5,000 unsecured bonds pending a March 13 preliminary hearing before Mark.
