The man accused of robbing a Bentleyville bank Thursday afternoon reportedly asked a teller for a deposit slip and then wrote a note on it demanding money.
Glenn Allan Flory Jr., 30, of Marianna, was taken into custody outside The Meadows Casino in North Strabane Township about four hours after he allegedly robbed the CFS Bank branch at 919 Main St. about 3:40 p.m.
Bentleyville police Chief Richard Young said Flory walked up to the teller and asked for a deposit slip. Flory then wrote the demand letter on the slip, the chief said. Flory did not show the teller any weapon, Young said.
“We used video surveillance to positively identify him,” Young said. “We then were able to trace him to North Strabane Township.”
North Strabane police Chief Brian Hughes said his officers got information that Flory was in the area of Racetrack Road and received a description of the suspect’s vehicle.
Officers checked several areas, including the casino, finding Flory with another man and a woman in a pickup truck about 7:35 p.m. All three were taken into custody. The other man, who was driving the truck, and the woman were later released after it was determined they were not involved in the robbery.
Young said North Strabane police impounded the truck after finding some paraphernalia in the vehicle. He said that agency is handling that aspect of the investigation.
Some of the money reportedly stolen from the bank was in Flory’s possession, police said. The total amount stolen in the bank robbery was not disclosed.
Flory was placed in Washington County jail on a parole detainer filed by an adult probation officer. Young expects to file charges, including robbery and theft, next week at the office of District Judge Curtis Thompson.
This is not Flory’s first brush with police. South Strabane Township police charged him last month with burglary, criminal trespass and theft. Flory was an employee of Penn Station/East Coast Subs, Old Mill Boulevard, when he allegedly used his key to enter the business after it closed for the day. He is accused of using the code for the safe and stealing two deposit bags and all of the $5 bills from the cash registers. More than $1,140 was stolen. He is scheduled for an April 10 preliminary hearing on those charges before District Judge Jay Weller.
Flory also pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia stemming from an incident in June 2016 when he was found with drugs inside a vehicle parked at Trinity Point.
State and local police along with the FBI assisted at the robbery scene.
