A California man is being held in Washington County jail without bond on several charges filed against him by borough police in connection with several incidents over the last year.

Torrie Brown, 25, of 608 Union St., was denied bond by District Judge Joshua Kanalis because Brown allegedly failed to show up for hearings while on bail or failed to follow conditions of his previous bond.

Brown was charged by police last month with robbery, terroristic threats and disorderly conduct. Police were called Jan. 12 to Strawberry and Peach alleys after a woman reported a light-skinned black man jumped out of a vehicle and robbed her. She said he gave the impression he had a gun.

Police said the alleged victim later admitted she and her husband were trying to buy marijuana from a man she knew as “Torrie” and he stole $15. He also allegedly threatened them if they told anyone. Her husband later identified the robber as Brown, police said.

Brown also is charged with receiving stolen property and theft for allegedly stealing a debit card and using it to make $144.73 in purchases at several businesses. Police said they checked surveillance at one of the businesses and identified Brown as the culprit.

Brown also is charged in separate incidents that happened March 24. He is charged with criminal trespass, terroristic threats, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct after he allegedly kicked a door of a Vulcan Village apartment and threatened people. A few hours later, police went to his home, where they said they found suspected marijuana. He was charged with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia and disorderly conduct.

Brown is scheduled for a March 26 preliminary hearing before Kanalis.
