The Washington County Transportation Authority has scheduled open-house events next week in Washington and Canonsburg as it seeks public input on transit.

The early session is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Washington Transit Center, 50 East Chestnut St.

Later the same day, officials will be on hand from 5 to 7 p.m. at Frank Sarris Public Library, 35 N. Jefferson Ave., Canonsburg.

The focus of each session will be the need for public transit in the community as part of the Washington County Transportation Authority’s transit development plan. It is a precursor to meetings to be convened by late May.

Sheila Gombita, executive director of Washington County Transportation Authority, said the topics to be discussed include “What are the needs and where do you think we need to go?

“We’re required to do a transportation development plan,” Gombita said. The in-person meetings have been set up for those who may not have access to computers or smartphones to take the survey, or who would prefer to discuss issues and ask questions in person.

The public can also provide input through an interactive online survey at the link WashingtonTDP.metroquest.com. The survey asks questions about priorities and destinations.

The survey, Gombita said, should take only 10 minutes to complete. It is accessible from both desktop and mobile devices.

The transportation authority purchased two full-sized buses for its commuter service to Pittsburgh and had them painted black and gold to match its Freedom Transit mini-buses. They went into service last month.
