Man shot during home invasion in Waynesburg
WAYNESBURG – A Waynesburg man was shot multiple times Monday night in his South Morris Street apartment in what police describe as an armed robbery involving drugs.
Johnathan C. Fannon, no age available, of 53 S. Morris St., suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his lower body, Waynesburg Borough police said. Police said Fannon was hospitalized and was stable Tuesday morning.
An arrest warrant was issued Tuesday morning by District Judge Glenn Bates in connection with the shooting for Cody D. Jannenga, 21, of Piney Flats, Tenn.
According to the criminal complaint, Jannenga and an unidentified man knocked at Fannon’s apartment door about 10 p.m., just after Fannon, his girlfriend, Brandi Stump, and their 16-month old child had arrived home.
Stump told police she opened the door and one of the men turned around and pointed a weapon at her. Stump said she immediately recognized Jannenga, to whom she had sold Subutex pills earlier in the day, according to court documents.
Stump said Jannenga told her, “I want everything, give me everything.”
Stump said Fannon handed her the child and began fighting the two men; Stump locked herself in the bedroom with the child.
Fannon told officers he fought with the unidentified man and attempted to gain control of the man’s weapon, which he described as an assault weapon, but which he believed was fake because of its material and weight.
While fighting with the unidentified man, Fannon said, Jannenga shot him multiple times with a pistol. Fannon said he continued to fight both men, noticing Jannenga was wearing brass knuckles.
He said he eventually told the men to take his pills and leave the home. After retrieving the pill container and giving it to the men, they left.
Police said they found Fannon lying on the patio at the rear of the house. A neighbor’s girlfriend was attempting to stop his bleeding.
Police Chief Rob Toth declined comment on the incident Tuesday morning.
“It’s still an open investigation,” he said.
Jannenga was charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and robbery. A warrant was issued for his arrest.
