Elections office makes changes in two Mon Valley polling places; absentee ballots coming due
What was to be a “temporary, emergency” switch of a polling place in Charleroi will likely become permanent, according to the Washington County elections office.
Charleroi’s third precinct moved last year from the Crest Avenue Apartments to the Charleroi Senior Center, 303 Chamber Plaza, but reportedly those involved preferred the senior center, so it will remain a polling place for the May 15 primary and elections going forward, according to the elections office.
Voters in Centerville’s third precinct should head to the Denbo Fire Department. The previous location was St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
The office also needs workers for local elections boards in Mt. Pleasant 2, Fort Cherry Ambulance; West Pike Run 2, municipal building; Hanover 2, volunteer fire department; and Independence 2, Avella Fire Department.
“Anyone interested can call the elections office,” said Melanie Ostrander, assistant director. “We’re always accepting people if they want to sign up.”
The minimum pay is $130 for a 13-hour day.
The elections office phone number is 724-228-6750.
Meanwhile, Acting Secretary of State Robert Torres encouraged Pennsylvanians to submit requests for primary election absentee ballots before the May 8 deadline.
Absentee voters must return their voted ballot to their county election office by May 11. A timely postmark is not sufficient.
Absentee ballots may be cast by deployed members of the military, Pennsylvania students attending out-of-state colleges or universities, individuals with illnesses or disabilities, and individuals who will be away from their municipality on business on election day.
Comprehensive information about absentee ballots, including a downloadable request form, can be found at the Department of State’s website votesPA.com. For additional information, call 1-877-VOTESPA, 1-877-868-3772.
